An entity is the company, site, branch or department a batch belongs to. In a single company installation you can ignore entities; they matter when several companies or sites share the same jobs, and in ChronoScan Enterprise, where they also control what each user sees.
Managing entities
Administration tab, Entities panel, Entity administration: the list of entities with identifier, name and description. In Enterprise the list is shared by all the stations (it lives in the server database).
Where entities are used
The Create Batch window has an entity panel: the batch is created for the selected entity and keeps it in its properties (GetEntityID, GetEntityName and GetEntityDescription in scripts; SetEntityID changes it).
The batch panel shows the entity column and can filter by it.
Hot folders in Enterprise can have one input folder per entity, so documents dropped in the folder of a site create batches of that site.
Exports can use the entity in names, paths and data (variables of the batch).
In Enterprise, users are assigned to entities; with the option "view only own entities" a user only sees the batches of their entities. Scripts can create entities with ChronoApp.AddEntity.
