The Nuance OCR Plug-In offers an optional ICR license that enables handwriting recognition (Intelligent Character Recognition) in OCR Zones. Once the ICR-enabled license is installed, create an OCR Zone, select the Nuance engine for the zone and change the Charset field to one of the hand: options; the zone will then be read as handwritten text.
ICR works only in OCR Zones (not in the full-page OCR) and its accuracy is limited: not all handwritten text is recognized correctly, and clear block capitals in boxes give the best results. We suggest requesting a time-limited DEMO license to test it on your own documents before deciding whether ICR improves your workflow.
