Export sometimes fails for unknown reason

Hello,

We have a Hotfolder set up to monitor a folder for incoming .png files, and through processing we do various things including OCR and finally exporting it to a .pdf file. The whole processing chain is handled by the Hotfolder and we want to achieve a goal where we have no manual input other than placing a file in a folder, and picking up the resulting pdf from the exporting folder.

Because some of our input files are quite large, we have by necessity increased the Timeout for OCR in the Program settings from 180 seconds to 1800 seconds. We use Tesseract engine because it is the only OCR engine that gives functional results for our input files.

We have run into a situation where a small selection of our input files fail to go through the entire process and be exported. We have not determined any common cause, the files appear as far as we can tell more or less the same as the files that go through the process successfully. They are equal size, same resolution, same amount of text to OCR etc.

By monitoring the Hotfolder process and not emptying/deleting the batch at the end of the export, we have guessed that the error seems to occur at the end when the batch is to be exported. See the attached error message.

You can find the particular file ai23-karta.png downloadable through this link apps.sgu.se/filexfer/down.jsp?hash=XVGPzAcgd7tNHMk3 by clicking "Starta nedladdning" up to 12 months after today. It is a 182mb .png and too large to attach directly.

Please advise as to how we can improve this situation in order to avoid the error. If you need any additional information please let me know.

Attaching 3 image files of our settings in case it helps. The first two are from the Hotfolder "import tiff" options. The third image is from the general "export batch" settings that the Hotfolder automatically chooses when it arrives at that particular processing step.

Do you have any error entries in the event viewer that correspond to when the Batch was being processed or exported? What version of ChronoScan are you using?

We are running 1.0.2.29. I've asked our IT department to update to the latest version.

I'm not 100% sure what the event viewer is. In the "Output" list to the right which seems to contain various pieces of information about ongoing processes there appears to be nothing irregular that does not also appear for successful exports as far as I can tell.

That would be the windows event viewer. If you pull up the start menu and start typing event viewer it will show up. Alternatively, you can open the windows administrative tools and open the event viewer from there.
Then go Event Viewer (Local) > Windows Logs > Application and search for Error entries. Usually if you perform a search (crtl+f) for "chrono" without the quotes, you might be able to find something.
Let me know if you can find any entries that match up the time of the failed exports.

Hello,
There are no associated error messages in the event viewer. We have an error from several days earlier for Chronoscan but frankly I dont recall what we were doing that day. We have since then encountered the above error around 30-40 times with no error messages in event viewer.

Christofer, please enable logging on your system and let it run until the issue happens again. I will also need you to install the latest version of ChronoScan:
chronoscan.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/Ch.../ChronoScanSetup.exe
To enable logging please create the following directory structure and restart ChronoScan:
C:\chronoscanlog\ChronoScan.exe\
C:\chronoscanlog\chronocvpdft10.exe\
C:\chronoscanlog\ChronoConv_pdft.dll\
Keep in mind that the chronoscanlog directory can fill up pretty quickly, so you might need to clean it up after one or two days until the error happens again. Also, the system will run slower due to the logging.
Once the error happens just send the log files over. This should give us enough information to further troubleshoot the issue.

Thank you for the response, I will get back to you once we have done as requested. It may be some time as the request to update our software is working its way through the administration.

Hello, when attempting to update to the 1.0.2.51 version we are faced with the attached error message about renewing maintenance license.

We have no troubles logging into the account on the older version and I believe our license is up to date. If you wish you can verify it, Sveriges geologiska undersökning (Geological Survey of Sweden).

The license will always be active, but maintenance has a 12 month time limit and will expire until it is renewed again. Until maintenance is renewed, it will not be possible to update ChronoScan. You can renew the maintenance for your licenses directly from ChronoScan using the Review Licenses button on the License Manager.
