A scheduled task runs an action by itself at a given cadence, with nobody at the keyboard. They live next to the hot folders in the Tasks/HotFolder tab and are executed by the same hot folder engine (ChronoScan.exe -hotfolder), so the engine must be running: start it with Start HotFolder and notifications or let it start with Windows.
Creating a task
Switch the view to Tasks and click Add task. Give it a name and choose the type:
Script: a VBScript run with the ChronoApp and ChronoProc objects, the same as a stand-alone script of the command line; the editor opens from the task. Use it to export ready batches, delete old batches, move files or call other systems.
Rebuild AI assistant: rebuilds the vector indexes of the AI Assistant for a job (or all), for the help lists, the Intelli-Tags or both, and for one field or all.
External data import: runs one or more External data import configurations (Administration tab).
Intelli-Tag import: runs one or more Intelli-Tag import configurations from a database.
Then set the schedule: every N minutes or hours, or daily at a time, on the selected weekdays, and optionally a time window. A task can be saved without running or saved and run immediately; Run now launches it at any moment.
Managing tasks
The list shows the name, type, job, configuration, status and last run of each task; the buttons Edit, Delete, Pause, Resume, Activate and Deactivate work as for hot folders. The monitor below shows the live activity of the engine and the last results; a notification "Scheduled task X finished" is written for the notifications icon, and a failed task can send an e-mail to the administrator.
On a desktop installation the tasks need the Windows session of the user that started the engine; for a server that works with nobody logged on use ChronoScan Enterprise. See also HotFolder Tasks and Executing ChronoScan on Command line.
